All auto stocks witnessed a bump-up in a market that was otherwise declining sharply. Reason: Monthly auto sales numbers for March were good. Neither the decline nor the rise were for the right reason, and there is more to it than what is obvious. Today, we are again witnessing a reaction to what Trump said in his speech last night. But do we even export significant numbers of automobiles to the US? Except for three companies which export their products to the US, there are hardly any others. Will these companies be impacted?If President Trump had asked an advisor to go through the annual reports of Indian auto companies, he probably would not have mentioned automobiles twice in his so-called “Liberation Day” announcement of reciprocal tariffs across the world. Does India even export significant numbers of automobiles to the US for him to have cited the sector as an example?
